There is no doubt the entertainment industry in Nigeria is a multi billion naira investment and doing very well both locally and internationally. The music and the film industries have contributed a lot to Nigeria by putting it on the world map of entertainment. You ignore Nigeria at your peril. Many investors are interested in our Nollywood and music industries.
Many international collaborations have been done and has raised the bar.
The latest is 3 awards worn by Nigerian young star, Wizkid at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, which held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, United States, on Sunday 21st.
The only Nigerian artiste to win this big, Wizkid’s hit collaboration with Drake & Kyla on One Dance last year earned him all the awards.
The singer, who was nominated for 7 awards, came out tops in the Top Streaming Song, Top R&B Song and Top R&B Collaboration, categories.
Rapper Ludacris and singer Vanessa Hudgens co-hosted this year’s Billboard Music Awards.
Drake was the big winner at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. The rapper took home 13 awards, making him the artist with the most in a single year, beating Adele’s record of 12.
This rare feat was made possible because of the collaboration Wizkid had with the Canadian born Drake.
Many Nigerian stars like D’banj, Psquare pioneered the idea of collaborating with international artists. D’banj and his ertswhile producer Don jazzy had a collaboration with American rapper Snoop Doggy Dog and Psquare had theirs with American Rick Ross. Sound Sultan had a collaboration with multi talented instrunmentalist, Wyclef Jean. Nigerians are horning their crafts and upping the ante.
We welcome more of this, just like the traditional artist 9ice said in one of his songs “One day I will bring home a Grammy”. It is becoming a possibility in the nearest future.
Kudos to our young stars in breaking new grounds, and congratulations to our Wizkid on this great achievement.
